Why Research Matters

Research is more than test tubes and beakers—it can teach us about people's lives.

We can use research to learn about LGBTQ+ people's experiences in the world and to develop programs that work to improve their health. Everyone benefits from more inclusive health policies and practices!

Research provides the space to challenge institutions, invigorate tangible change, and cultivate an equitable future for humanity through the generation of knew knowledge.

How does research improve the health of LGBTQ+ people?

Knowing that gender-affirming care improves mental health influences standards of care for trans people

Knowing that PrEP is safe and effective provides another tool for HIV prevention

Knowing why many queer people feel uncomfortable in healthcare settings informs how we promote LGBTQ+ inclusive staff and offices

Knowing that QTPOC (queer and trans people of color) experience more health disparities tells us that funding for support programs should prioritize this group

LGBTQ+ research is more important now than ever. The effects of the rapid rise in policies and violence targeting our communities must not go unaddressed.

It is critical that we understand the impacts of these attacks so we can find the best ways to protect the health and wellbeing of our communities.
